images/stories/ATorres_R.Tischer003-200.jpgViolist Ray Tischer has performed solo, chamber music, jazz and world music internationally in Carnegie Hall, Hong Kong City Concert Hall, the Detmold (Germany) Crossover Music Festival and in Israel with the Armadillo, Festival Arts and Bangkok String Quartets; the Aeolian, Cambridge and New Century Chamber Players; Israeli World Music violin/oud artist Yair Dalal; European jazz pianist Georg Rox and with his own bands Chutzpah, the Britt Bossa Orchestra, the L.A. Crossover Band, the Ray Tischer Quintet and Circle of Chi.
    Having played on over 1200 motion picture soundtracks, TV series, commercials and recordings with Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, Natalie Cole, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Garth Brooks, Diana Ross, Jimmy Page/Robert Plant, Metallica, Aerosmith, Charlie Haden, Eddy Daniels, Diana Krall, John Adams and Peter Schickele among others, he has also produced the Britt Bossa Orchestra’s award winning CD Canciones del Sol and his 2011 solo CD Rez Dawg Viola.
    As principal violist, he has played with the Royal Ballet of Covent Garden, the Royal Danish Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Deutsche Oper Berlin. San Francisco’s Western Opera Theater, the L.A. Bach Festival, the San Diego and L.A. Mozart Chamber Orchestras, the Pacific, Long Beach, L.A. Jewish and Britt Festival Orchestras.  Additionally, he has played with the Bolshoi, Kirov, National Cuban, Stuttgart, New York City and American Ballet Orchestras;  Los Angeles, New York City and Long Beach Operas;  the L.A. Philharmonic, L.A.Chamber Orchestra and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra among others.
    His teachers have included William Primrose, Paul Doktor, Walter Trampler, Alan de Veritch and his mother Ann Tischer.  Having completed his DMA at USC, he has taught at USC, California Institute of the Arts, Henry Mancini Institute, California State University at Long Beach, UCSB,  Occidental College and as a Rockefeller Fellow at the University of Fine Arts in Bangkok, Thailand.  He presents workshops internationally in Sound Cultivation, viola, chamber music, jazz and improvisation.  As a certified Qigong and Tai Chi Instructor he has developed a completely new modality for the treatment of Alzheimer’s patients and the elderly called Sound Cultivation.
    As a composer/arranger his music has been presented at the Britt Music Festival, the Detmold (Germany) Crossover Music Festival, Occidental College and in various video projects for General Electric, IBM and Sunbreak Productions.
